Red Cross First Aid Course

The Red Cross is the at the leading edge of first aid and CPR training. By taking a Red Cross first aid course you become part of the chain of survival. Prior to paramedics arriving on the scene, it is the people who have taken part in a first aid or CPR course that are the real difference makers. For every minute that goes by for a person in cardiac arrest without receiving CPR, they are 10 percent less likely to recover. Take part in a first aid or CPR course and save the life of a loved one, friend, neighbour or stranger.

The Red Cross follows the same CPR guidelines as the Lifesaving Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and St. Johns Ambulance. These guidelines are set by an international committee called “ILCOR”. The Red Cross adapts its CPR program to incorporate the highest standards with the most recent additions and guidelines. By taking a first aid course through the Red Cross you are getting the highest possible CPR and first aid training for “Lay” persons.

The Red Cross has a wide range of different first aid and CPR and standalone CPR courses. The best way to determine which is the correct course for you is to ask your employer or to check with your teachers. If you are taking a first aid course for only the sake of learning first aid and CPR then read through each course listed in our other pages to find out which course is right for you. Courses range from 16 hours in length (Standard First Aid Courses) to only 4 hours in length (CPR level “A”)

By taking a first aid course through the Red Cross you are taking part in an idea that has grown for over 100 years. The Red Cross originated from a civilian that could not watch people suffer and day as casualties of a war. He gathered people and helped wounded soldiers on a battle field. Henry Dunant founded the Red Cross that day and it has grown as world leader in first aid and the spirit of volunteering. Henry Dunant was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Become a part of this long tradition and become a first aider and lend aid to people that need first aid or CPR help.
